Sample gap audit

A Peninsula café running three roasters at once

This is a real audit from September 2026, built only from public information: the café's website, and its roasters' published schedules and catalogs. The café and roaster names are removed.

Every café gets one of these for free. It takes me about 20 minutes, and it's yours to keep whether or not we work together.

What turned up

  1. The hours Google reads are placeholder text. The website template ships an opening-hours field that Google uses, and on this site it still says "Please insert valid ISO 8601 date/time here." It has probably read that way since the site went live.
  2. There's no email address anywhere on the site. Customers, wholesale reps and event inquiries all go through a form or nowhere.
  3. Three roasters means three separate freshness calendars. Each one has its own order day, roast day, shipping time, rest window and past-peak date, and nothing public suggests anything is keeping track of them together.

The freshness problem, in one table

Roaster A publishes its schedule: it roasts to order Monday to Friday and ships within 24 hours. Its guidance is to let coffee rest four days, and the audit uses day 35 as the end of peak.

An order on Friday and an order on Sunday arrive on the same day. Knowing that decides when it's worth ordering.

Roaster AReady 4 days after roast. Ships next day.
Roaster BNo published schedule. Ready about 7 days after roast.
Roaster CShips from overseas. Arrives about 8 days after roasting.

Someone at this café holds all three calendars in their head. The Morning Brief holds them instead, and tells the team each morning what's ready, what to order, and what's about to fade.

What we'd talk about

  1. Of three things, which costs you most right now: time on ordering, mistakes like stale bags or wrong hours online, or money you aren't making?
  2. How do you keep each roaster's roast dates and rest windows straight today, and who decides what goes in the hopper tomorrow?
  3. How many open retail bags are on the shelf, and when did you last discount or toss one?
